Stories are the basic unit of human cognition. We tell ourselves (and others) stories all day every day to make sense of the world around us, actively shaping our reality and relationships. These stories spring from deeply-held and widely believed “source-narratives”,often unconsciously inherited from our ancestors and nurtured by family, faith, community, and culture. These source narratives have immense power to harm and heal. Not just confined to media and communications, narrative strategy can and should be at the core of all areas of social justice work: from policy to organizing to culture.

As a multimedia storyteller, Luisa Dantas understands that harnessing the power of narrative is crucial to imagining and forging a more just and free world where future generations can thrive in harmony with the planet we call home. As a narrative consultant and facilitator, she has worked with non-profits, foundations, and grassroots organizations encompassing a range of issues from housing and land to labor and climate justice. Clients have included the Ford Foundation, JPB Foundation, National Employment Law Project, PowerSwitch Action, Policylink and others.
